You designed a workbook, application, checklist, or client document in Canva. Now you want people to type into it without changing the layout.

Can you make a fillable PDF in Canva?

Canva can create the design, but its text boxes are not PDF form fields. A text box that you add while designing can only be changed by someone who edits the Canva project. It does not become a space that a recipient can type into after downloading the PDF.

A fillable PDF contains interactive fields. The recipient opens the file in a PDF viewer, clicks a field, types an answer, checks a box, or picks an option. They can then save the completed document and send it back.

Prepare your Canva design for fillable fields

A few layout choices make the finished form easier to complete.

• Leave enough blank space. A name may fit on one line, but an address or written answer needs a larger area.
• Put labels outside the blank areas. The PDF editor adds fields on top of the page. Keep labels such as Name, Email, and Comments above or beside those spaces.
• Use visible boxes or lines. They show you where each interactive field should go after export.
• Keep choices easy to scan. Give each checkbox or radio option its own line when possible.
• Use a standard page size. Letter or A4 works well in common PDF viewers and on office printers.
• Check the font size. The document may look good on your large Canva canvas but feel cramped at its real printed size.

How to make a Canva fillable PDF

1. Download the design from Canva

   Open the finished design and click Share, then Download. Choose PDF Standard for a form that people will mostly complete on screen. Use PDF Print only when print quality matters more than file size.

   Download the file and open it once. Check that every page, label, line, and graphic appears in the right place before you add fields.

Check the file before you send it

Download a separate test copy and open it in the viewer your recipients are likely to use. PDF field support can vary between a browser tab, Adobe Reader, macOS Preview, and a phone viewer. Keep the editor open while you test.

• Confirm that multiline answers stay inside their boxes.
• Check that only one radio option can be selected in each group.

• Save the completed PDF, close it, and reopen it to confirm the answers remain.
• Try the file on a phone if mobile completion matters.

After testing, return to the open editor and clear every sample answer that is not an intentional default. Preview it once more, then download the clean recipient copy. If one viewer does not display or save the fields correctly, tell recipients which viewer to use.
